Meet the Principal 

Amber Walters, Principal 

It is an honor to be the prinicipal at AIS West. Our school family is truly one of a kind. I look forward to walking alongside each of you this year. I spent all of my time in the classroom teaching 5th and 6th grade students  in both North Carolina and in Indiana. I am a Nationally Board Certified Teacher. I have served as an Assistant Principal and Principal in MSD of Washington Township in Indianapolis where I was recognized as Administrator of the Year. I was also recognized as the District 8 Principal of the Year in 2021.   My husband and son, who is a student at Avon High School recognize and support my passion and love for serving others and our Avon community.  My #1 focus everyday at AISW is to ensure the safety of our students and staff. My favorite part of each day is greeting students at car rider line and walking through classrooms and the cafeteria at lunch. Seeing the great learning taking place each day is simply inspiring. Thank you for allowing me the honor and privilege to walk with you this school year as we all belong, learn and grow together.

Meet the Assistant Principal 

Laura Lee, Assistant Principal 

I'm honored to be Assistant Principal at Avon Intermediate School West. I'm a lifelong learner and enjoy working with our students and staff on a daily basis. I graduated from Indiana State University with my undergraduate degree in elementary education. I spent most of my years in the classroom teaching 5th grade! I then became an instructional coach and went back to school to get my MBA from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. I finished courses and assessments to get my administrator license, which led me to my current position here at West! As a team, we work together to ensure that all students are safe and are learning. I enjoy greeting students in the morning, being in classrooms, and getting to know each of our amazing students while working with teachers to help us all grow and learn. I know that we are better together, and I believe that our students bring valuable and unique strengths to our school. As an Avon resident with my own children attending Avon schools, I'm committed to ensuring that we bring our best every day!   

Meet the Dean of Students 

Stephanie Mackenzie, Dean of Students

It is an honor to be part of the AISW family! I am excited to get to know both students and families in Avon and play a small role in the great things each of our students are destined to become. After graduating from Illinois State University, I spent time volunteering overseas and working at an alternative school where I learned the importance of strong relationships, high expectations and clear boundaries. I completed my masters at National Louis University in Chicago before moving to the west side of Indianapolis in 2016 and working at a charter school network for 4 years.  I believe that communicating my belief in a student is as important as setting a high expectation. I look forward to learning from the AISW team and building trusting relationships with all our students and families.
